When we switched out our thermostats to a smart version a couple of years ago, we quickly learned how convenient it is to be able to adjust the temperature of our house from anywhere with our phones or by voice with Alexa.

Here are a few examples of times it has come in handy:

  • When we leave on vacation and forgot to adjust the temp for energy savings before leaving.
  • When we’ve been sick and hot or cold and can adjust the temperature without leaving the bed.
  • When we’re downstairs and need to adjust the upstairs temperature.
  • When we’re out in the summer heat and want to cool down the house a bit before we arrive home.
  • When I work at my coworking space instead of at home and can adjust the temp a few degrees for energy savings when I leave the house. I can then adjust it back to our preferred temp on my phone before going home.

Our thermostats are the LUX KONO model. When LUX®, a division of Johnson Controls, reached out to tell me about their newest affordable option, the LUX CS1 smart thermostat, I was eager to learn more.

They provided me a brand new LUX CS1 thermostat to giveaway, so be sure to read the instructions for entering at the end of the post!

I appreciate that the thermostat is compatible with both Android phones and iPhones, as well as both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. We’ve been bummed in the past when companies have ignored Android users.

The app includes a Home & Away Aware™ feature that uses geofencing to detect whether someone’s in the house, and a Smart Scheduling feature that learns your comfort needs and adjusts the LUX CS1’s settings accordingly.

Plus, it’s ENERGY STAR® certified, which will help save you money! Speaking of saving money, the LUX CS1 is only $99, making it one of the most affordable smart thermostats out there — perfect for smart home beginners and gifting.

Use coupon code PolishedHabitat for an extra 10% off your purchase of the LUX CS1! Order here.

When you connect your LUX CS1 (or KONO or GEO models) to the
LUX app you can control your thermostat from anywhere, at any time. We’ve been using the original version of the LUX app, but they’re about to release a new version with an improved user interface and even more personalization settings.

Here’s a screenshot from my phone to show how easy the app is.

LUX even makes install easier by adding a little level right into the back of the thermostat. Brilliant!

Who wants one of these brand new models?

I’ll be sending out one LUX CS1 Smart Thermostat to one lucky winner. The winner does need to be over 18 and have a shipping address within the US.

To enter, just let me know your favorite way to stay cool in the summer in the comments below.

Entries close at 11:59 PM on Tuesday 6/30/2020. A random winner will be drawn. Full giveaway rules & regulations available here.

I love to sit on my 3 season porch with the ceiling fan on full blast and a cold drink and watch the birds that visit our feeder and pond! Yesterday’s entertainment was a pileated woodpecker and the day before it was a couple of wood storks!

It was at my coworking place! I was having some other photos done there so we snapped this one. It was the first time I had gone in since February and it was nice to be temporarily back in the beautiful space (with only me and the photographer).

I do most of the time, but last fall a sweet woman opened a women-only, pink floored coworking spot next to a locally owned coffee shop on Main Street in BA so I couldn’t pass up the change to work there once or twice a week and support a new business owner!

I suffer terribly in the heat of summer, and am most uncomfortable trying to sleep at night on the second floor of our home. The bottom floor could be icy, but the top floor was always too warm. What has worked to produce a cool night of sleep is to set a fan close to the cool air register and aim it at my bed. The fan is quiet, but does the job of putting the coolest air directly at our bed and therefore gives me a great night of sleep in a cool environment. Of course, I’d rather be in the lake, but this works for those other times of day.
